Celebrating Women
1st Mar 2023
In celebration of International Women's Day we talked to a few of the Jan Marini Australia team and asked them about the women in their lives, who inspires them and why.
VIVIEN - MANAGING DIRECTOR
Name a woman who inspires you and why:
A woman who inspires me is of course Jan Marini for her combination of fierce determination and beautiful, gentle nature. She is so knowledgeable yet so humble. We can chat about all sorts of things, not just business. She is always impeccable in her presentation and her leadership style is collaborative and gracious. Her integrity inspires me most - in herself, her products and her business.
What do you love most about the aesthetic/skincare industry and working alongside other women led business owners?
The female focus as both providers and consumers in this industry is fantastic. I personally couldn’t think of anything worse than being, say, a car mechanic. In this industry, a professional discussion can drift in and out of the personal and domestic with ease and there’s usually a sense that we “get” each other and the challenges we face. What I love most about it is there’s generally a lot less ego on display and a greater focus on caring for each other and finding the right balance between the professional and personal.

KELLY - NATIONAL SALES MANAGER
Name a woman who inspires you and why:
A woman who inspires me is a women I only know as Margo. Margo and I have been going to the same Pilates class a couple of times a week for a while now and I can honestly say that the short time before and after class I get to speak with Margo is a highlight of my week. Margo is 86 , teaches yoga , does Pilates , volunteers for the Endeavor Foundation, is an early adopter of technology being one of the first people in Brisbane to have an electric car, and took up Ballet at 83! I want to be just like Margo as I progress through life: Take up new challenges, keep up with technology and to simply keep living life too the fullest and having a go, Margo is an inspiration to me.
What do you love most about the aesthetic/skincare industry and working alongside other women led business owners?
One of the main things I love about the industry is the diversity of opportunity that it gives to women and people that are involved. The passion people have for the industry has allowed them to achieve both personal and professional goals. I have know people who have started as Beauty Therapist who now have their own skin care brand, who have gone from doing treatments to becoming educators, Business Development Managers, People Leaders and so on. On the other hand it allows the flexibility of being a working parent as it allows for a flexible work environment which assists with work/life balance. You can also diversify your career along the way, from Beauty Therapist to Nurse or Dermal Clinician or Business owner. It is the diversity and the support of the people that makes the industry a unique space.

MICHELLE - EDUCATION & BUSINESS MANAGER - VIC/WA/SA
Name a woman who inspires you and why:
A woman who inspires me is the Mexican artist Frida Kahol. Her confessional paintings are symbols of physical pain & fortitude. Frida's original ambition was to train in medicine however she was in a dreadful near fatal accident when she was 18 years old. Frida Kahlo became semi-invalid as a result of her accident and during her life time underwent over 30 operations. She became an artist by accident. Frida Kahlo rejected all stereotypes about what conventional beauty looks like and kept her unibrow and moustache as a purposeful beauty statement. It’s her tenacity in the face of hardship and her defiance against needing to fit in that I most admire.
What do you love most about the aesthetic/skincare industry and working alongside other women led business owners?
Aesthetic Industry - One of the main reason I love the industry is the everyday chance to meet new people, help & serve others. It really enhances my own creative skills as I do different types of roles most days. BDM, Educator, Mentor, Merchandiser, Marketing, Researcher, Social Media the opportunities are always endless & interesting. Never have I had worked in an industry or job position that I can say ‘I just go out & make friends’.

ROXANNE - EDUCATION & BUSINESS MANAGER NSW/ACT
Name a woman who inspires you and why:
A women who inspires me is Coco Chanel . A strong talented women ahead of her time , she was wealthy , successful and controversial , she completely revolutionised the course of women’s fashion , she resisted limitations and encouraged women to do the same, in fashion and otherwise. Her business acumen and success was unheard of for women in her era. My favourite quote from Gabrielle (coco) Chanel “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”
What do you love most about the aesthetic/skincare industry and working alongside other women led business owners?
I have loved working within the aesthetics industry for the past 34 years. It is ever changing, with unlimited opportunities for growth and development. It is fast paced and exciting. I believe I was drawn to this industry as it is full of smart, successful, strong women (and men) determined to lift up other women.
